Performance issues since July balance patch
Now having significant performance issues playing Northgard after this latest patch. The game is chugging on my Dell I7-6700 NVidia GTX 960M 16 GB Ram laptop. Up until this point I've never experienced any slowdowns with this game. Now it is barely playable. Using Direct X I believe. Help! Do I need a new computer or will these performance issues be solved in a new patch?

liskelAlso this seems to get worse if I play multiple matches in a row (without restarting the complete game). Eg. fame “popup” (Thane) begins to noticeable stop the game and takes quite a lot of time to display.
Had no problems approx. a month ago. -

Ozswish MergedGameplay starts to have performance issues, including during single player, when progressed through larger maps or with more players / AI. The controls are lagged or non-responsive from keyboard, the music slows & stutters, including during game pause menu. with all game performance settings changed to low, running Windows 10, Alienware, Intel i7-700HQ 4-core 2.8Ghz x64, 4GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 1050Ti. Have also tried running in DirectX & OpenGL from Steam start menus, similar issues on 2x different but identical spec machines.

GrumpklnHello. :)
Okay, lets go:
my Setup:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Prozessor
16 GB Ram
AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
Even so my Specs are much higher, than the requirements on the Steampage, I experience some FPS Issues, especially in longer games, in singleplayer as well as in multiplayer.
At the start of the match, i have barely 60 fps. I would be totally okay with that, but it drops after some time ingame to 30 fps or even lower.
My drivers are up to date.
And looking at my task manager, nothing there is over 30%, so, this must be an issue with the game, right? If so, are there any fixes? I already fiddlet with all the settings in the games menu, and i can't say it changed anything.
It's a really fun game, so it would be really sad, if there's nothing, i could do. :/ -

MangoMy setup:
- i5-11400F
- 16 GB Ram
- NVIDIA 1650 SUPER
Problem:
Game freezes for one second every time something changes, for example:
- Place a new building on the map.
- Complete a building.
- Discover new territory.
- Assign people to a building.
The size of the map doesn't prevent the freeze, it just makes it faster.
Tried without unsuccessfully:
- Tried launching the game with the 3 graphics options (open-gl etc).
- Decrease graphics to minimum settings. -

AurkusHaving the same issue. Performance is fine early on but tanks further on into a game. Even after the game has ended on the statistics screen during the replay fps is horrible. Runs at 15-25 fps with 1 person and 6 AIs while not hosting the game. Sound will stutter when performance drops down to 1 fps for about a second before jumping back up to 15-25 fps.
Graphical settings seem to have almost 0 impact on performance when it tanks. Tried pretty much every combination of the ones available in game.
Also tried DirectX, DirectX 32bit, OpenGL and used DXVK to see if performance with Vulkan was any better. Tried the "Disable Fullscreen optimization" option on the Northgard.exe
Ryzen 5 2600x
RX 6700XT
16gb ram
GPU runs around ~40-60% when the problem happens while CPU runs ~20-25% -

Since to July balance patch my game freezes the moment i want to build a forge in every game.
It works if i play without forge, but this is absolutely no fun.
I wait till this get fixed. -

Szymon TarkowskiGame works fine for a certain amount of time then all of a sudden it becomes unplayable, Mega freez slow down. Far worse on open gl, than on DirectX. Running 5600x with 16 gigs of ram, and a rx5808 gig. Up until now (with few patch issues, resolved allready) game was perfoming great.

Eric BeijnerSince the last patch I've only been playing conquest with Snake, and on 'Dystopia' after 49mins played I had to save and exit the game. When starting the game back up a few minutes later and loading the same map it's freezing every time. using all of the available RAM memory (total 32GB).
I've tried changing the game settings, starting the game with either DirectX or OpenGL, and reinstalling the game. I even tried starting a conquest on Boar (which I can play without this issue), and nothing helps. -

EricSimilar performance issues as others have noted. I have been playing the game in story mode and rarely if ever had any performance issues. Since mid Aug '23 I've had the game stutter. It is especially bad when snow and fog effects are in play. Much longer pauses ~ 1-2s occur when the year updates and the gave generates an auto save. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game hoping it had something to do with the autosaves.
1 - mode: Story
2 - OS : Windows 10
3 - OpenGL / DirectX - No idea
4 - Reproducible. Yes. I've been playing chapter 11 ( big map, lots of factions ) . Happens every time one the game gets a few turns in.
Hope you all can figure this out. Fun game. Hate to see it removed due to poor performance. -

BartoszI believe it is a memory leak issue in the latest code.
What I observe is that the game runs smoothly (integrated Intel graphics, i5 chipset, 16 giga RAM, and highest graphics settings used) when it starts, but turns to be super laggy after some time of playing the single map. Restarting the game completely solves the lagging, for some time though, before it turns to be laggy at some point.
Once, when playing the single, huge map for a very long time, I experienced a blue screen crash on PC with the system message "MEMORY ISSUE". That happened after playing for a long time with game already lagging very much. -

HaarlinshThere is a serious memory issue. I've 96gb RAM and on big map with 6 clans in conquest , at one point, the game goes to a whooping 58Gb RAM !! and then freeze as hell. I can quit the game, launch a save like 10 sec before the freeze and its always the same number.

dgrvMacbook Pro with 16gb of ram here. Running on lowest settings on everything. The game froze and ran out of ram.
1
Never had this issue before, for the first time in a multiplayer map (2 humans, 2 Owl AI clans), saw 36gb of ram used up by the game and rising. Seems to not be limited.
My co-player on windows had a similar issues. Both of our games started lagging and then froze completely.
It was very frustrating. Looks like a memory leak. possibly caused by badly managed Owl clan assets? -

Diorscore i5 12600K, 32gb RAM
The game freezes and runs out of RAM.
Never had this problem before, 32gb ram is used up by the game and growing. It seems unlimited.
It seems like there is a memory leak. Can the Owl clan's assets be managed economically? -

RobottoMy friend and I have had similar issues, where there was massive stuttering. We discovered the only way to improve the horrible lag was to kill destroy the enemy Town Centers and wait for the building they own to burn out and be destroyed.
2
The AI on extreme conquest also now invades your territories sometimes with armies of 17-21 within the first two years. The worst I had included 5 Warchief's out of six. The game seems to lag worse the longer the units sit inside the zone I previously controlled but I am not sure the issue is related. -

KyleI'm bummed because i love this game, but as the game progresses, 30-40 minutes in it starts to lag and jump. scrolling becomes unsmooth and really its not enjoyable because of the lag.
-
24 Apr, '24
A.DentI wouldn't call it "lag". It becomes unplayable at about 1 fps. The game freezes all other programs too: Firefox, Outlook. Everything is damn slow even minutes after closing the game.
-

BartoszThe lagging is still an issue, especially (mostly) when playing on larger maps with more AI opponents.
The game lags a lot, also music becomes laggy and shattered. All these problems happen regardless of graphics settings (I experience those issues on both high and the lowest settings). -

TanjaHow can it be, that the performance issue is noted for 3 years and still nothing happens in this direction?
1
My friend and I already bought a lot of DLC's and spent a lot of money to support the development, but the performance is still bad and feels like it is getting worse and worse.
Lags and game freezes are an every day issue of this game in coop conquests. Today the game even crashed completely and ended itself. That it is still not possible to rejoin a game you already played for an hour is also very sad with these regular problems. -
25 Dec, '24
VoidEffortLag has been a component of coop conquest since the beginning, but it's getting worse instead of better. Missed inputs, abyssmal framerates, lag spikes, crashes. I'd have bought some clans for christmas if it wasnt so bad.
1
A lot of the lag seems to be caused by too frequent updates or doing too many things at once, like the huge lag spike when a lot of buildings burn down at once. That's not a hard problem to solve and the lack of skill or willingness to improve this aspect for over 3 years will decrease your revenue over the longterm, although I understand why focusing on free or paid content may seem more lucrative in the shortterm.
