villagers can't be assigned

Hi,

I've got a bug that makes Northgard unplayable, which I'm finding after installing it and trying to play for the first time in a long while. From Steam achievements, it looks like I last played around a year ago.

The issue is that villagers cannot be assigned to anything at all. I build a scout camp or a woodcutter lodge at the start of the game, but then right-clicking a villager onto the completed building doesn't work at all. Villagers treat it like a move command and move to the building, but remain as just villagers and go back to foraging.

I'm running the same computer I played Northgard on a year ago, without issues at that time:

Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6
MacBook Pro 2013
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

After new update game doesn't work correctly. In single mode u can't appoint any villager for any work. In multiplayer mode after connection to the server, the game does't get started and you are in an endless wait for other players.

I'm on MacBook.
I've just bought the game and when I start the game and try to order my villagers to join a building it does't work. It seems that the orders don't work and it's very annoying !

Can you give me more information concerning your issue, like on which building do you try to send a Villager ? what is you OS version ?

Hi team,

I have the same problem on my MacBook Air M1. Also when I try to connect to the server in multiplayer mode after connection to the server the game does't get started and you are in an endless wait for other players with black screen.

In case it's helpful somehow in pinpointing this issue: I've also noticed that the cursor doesn't change appearance at all when hovering over a building with a villager selected. It's been a while since I played when the game worked, but that doesn't seem right? I feel like I remember the cursor graphic changing in that situation.

I can confirm the previous massage. I also can't select any building (camp, wood, scout, home building) when my cursor on it and destroy or do smith else.

Hi !

We find a process that could allow you to play while we understand the issue to fix it.

Here the process :

- Open a terminal
- Copy and paste this
- cd Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Northgard/
- Press enter
- Copy and paste this
- osx/hl sdlboot.dat --console
- Press enter

Game sghould start and you should be able to assign villager !

Sorry for the issue; will do our best to fix it asap !

Thank you for suggesting a workaround, but unfortunately, it's still not playable.

When launching the game via the terminal, all modes accept Story Mode have their buttons grayed out, and a popup tooltip on any of them says: "You need to log in through Steam to access this menu." I wanted to play single player skirmishes and/or conquest mode, and it's impossible.

Followup: I found that by adding the file "steam_appid.txt", containing the string "466560" which is Northgard's steam ID number, I get around the above issue and play modes are enabled again. However, that just gets back to the original problem. Villagers still can't be assigned any jobs.

4) In loading a save game, a seemingly random save game is loaded; player can't select what to load (without pausing and selecting the correct load)
5) In a loaded game, the villagers can't be selected, grouped, or assigned to work; navigating the map is also off. I have sometimes been able to quite the game; quit steam, and then login to steam again and restart the game and then it runs as expected.

This is exactly the same bug I've encountered, both in Solo and Conquest. I cannot select a building to see info or assign villagers, nor does the cursor icon change when hovering over the building. I can move the villagers fine with right click and place buildings, but I just can't interact with them. I've rebooted the level, rebooted the game, reinstalled the game, booted in safe mode, all to no avail.

This problem can be worked around by saving immediately once the level loads then reloading from save, but that's a really gnarly and annoying inconvenience, especially in Conquest. I also haven't tried multiplayer since encountering the bug, but since you can't save in multiplayer that's potentially gamebreaking.

I've tried multiplayer since my previous comment above and it appears that the bug persists when I start the lobby, but it works fine when others host.

Hi,

I have the bug too, but I manage to reproduce it.

Enable a decoration and disable it. You can't assign villager until you enable a decoration.

I tried Thrynir's fix and can confirm the bug doesn't happen when a decoration is equipped, but persists after unequipping it.

The bug is reproducible on my machine as well.
1. Reproducible on Solo and Conquest. Haven't tested the others.
2. Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS
3. The bug is reproducible with native Linux OpenGL, Proton OpenGL and Proton DirectX. Proton version is v7.0-4
4. If bought skin of some buildings are not equipped I am not enable to click on any building. Tried with few factions.

Not sure if I need to open a new thread but unfortunately I have bought a Mielikki ceremonial skin and now I am not able to hire neither Mielikki, Brundr nor Kaelinn in Training Camp. Contrary to "clicking on building" bug for this one it does not matter if skin is equipped or not. This makes Lynx clan totally unplayable for me.

Is there any way I can reset all of my skin purchases?

I have the same issue, I believe since the major update around 27th of April (I play regularly)
* Cannot assign villagers to buildings (also no pointer change on hover)
* Only in multiplayer, not on single, story or conquest. I have only tried when hosting game and only playing with AIs.
* Deactivating all treasures (including Decorations) didn’t work - I also had to re-unlock Units skins that was already unlocked and equipped from before which might be another bug

I use MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019 with macOS Ventura 13.4.1
I have the same problem since the Major update "Trials of Odin" in April.

My problem is only in Multiplayer mode when I try to play against a friend. If I build a Scout camp or woodcutter I am not able to assign my workers to that building, when I hoover the icon don't change as well. If I click on that building, it says Town Hall, but it is a Scout camp, for example. Please fix this, I play a lot with friends, and I was waiting for new updates with a hope that this would be fixed, but it is still a problem.

One other thing I noticed was different after that update, when you connect to the game and waiting for other players, it shows that the game will resume in 10s. It used to be "waiting for players..." and the game would start without this count down (maybe it has something to do with the bug)

Just downloaded the game. Use a MacBook Air. Villagers cannot be assigned to anything, so the game is not playable. When I hover over a building the cursor change with a green + sign. But the villagers is not assigned to the building/job.

I tried to google and some users say you need to add and remove a decoration for this to work. But I do not have any silver bars so I cannot buy any decoration. Seems like this is a bug going on for years, how annoying that it is still not solved.

Will ask for a refund if this is not answered/solved very soon.
