Steam Overlay doesn't work on Linux native version of the game

OS - ArchLinux. Using Awesome as window manager.
As the title suggests, steam overlay doesn't work when the game is ran in native (as in no compatibility tools). Every other game that I've tried that have Linux ports (Stardew Valley, Don't Starve Together, BoI rebirth) do have working Steam Overlay, with the only one that doesn't being Northgard.
Running Northgard via proton does seem to make overlay work, though.
