Hypnotic spores having effect after removal

I was playing a multiplayer game and had an Hypnotic Spore on giants. After befriending them, i removed the spore to place it somewhere else. After removing my teammate got the giants angry and they attacked him. I tried to defend him and declared war on them. Thats when I noticed the friendship was still going up. I could declare war on them once and defend, but after declaring war for the second time, I could not and my teammate lost his townhall. I don't know if thats related but I thought it was strange.
